Discovering the Great Outdoors with Map4Rec

Summer is a magic time for the Great Outdoors — playing games, doing sports, or just relaxing on the riverside. However, if you are new to the area, it might take time to find places for such activities. In the “Mapping for Recreation” (Map4Rec) project, children from Ukraine (ages 9-14) explore the best outdoor spots in their new hometowns during the summer school vacation in August.

Unveiling Hidden Gems

In the picturesque cities and towns of Twente, including Enschede, Borne, Oldenzaal, Almelo, Vriezenveen, Tubbergen, and Holten, children will form teams of 5-8 eager adventurers. Together, they will go on biking tours, seeking out places for recreation, like enchanting parks, thrilling playgrounds, and serene lakeside spots. Not only will they have fun outdoors, but they will also capture visited spots through photographs and video tours. At the end of the project, we will have an online map with photographs of the most attractive recreation spots for youth — showing the power of community and exploration.

Lead and Explore

We are looking for volunteers to accompany and lead the young explorers during their biking trips. Your main role is to plan the biking routes, ensuring that the children visit places they are excited about. With two to three field trip leaders for each team, you'll form a supportive group to make this journey unforgettable. We are a multicultural team, and many children speak basic Dutch and English.

Flexible Schedules and Locations

Each team will make four half-day trips (20 hours in total). As a field trip leader, you'll choose the city and the team you'd like to work with, and we'll plan the trips to fit into your calendar.
